2016 Readers & Writers Adventures

We’re looking forward to our most exciting shooting season yet in what will be Shooting Sportsman’s 21st year hosting the trips that have come to be known as Readers & Writers Adventures. In 2016/’17 we will be revisiting perennial favorites and finally returning to a highly rated, premiere destination on an historic western landscape. As it was expressed a few years ago by Editor at Large Silvio Calabi, here’s your opportunity to “come hunting with friends you’ve not yet met.”

 

FIRESTEEL CREEK LODGE — 2016

Dates: Oct. 29-Nov. 2  (Hunting Oct. 30, 31, Nov. 1)

Location: Isabel, South Dakota

Description: “Small group” hunting for wild pheasants, sharp-tailed grouse and Hungarian partridge in some of the West’s finest open country. Superb hunting, off-the-charts hospitality and a charming lodge make this a true favorite among SSM readers.  Hardly anyone leaves Firesteel without a strong desire to return.

RIO PIEDRA PLANTATION — 2016

Dates: Nov. 16-20 (Hunting Nov. 17, 18, 19)

Location: Camilla, Georgia

Description: Bobwhite quail in the plantation belt!  Rio Piedra Plantation is one of most acclaimed hunting lodges in America. Teams of two hunters will pair with a guide to follow pointing dogs through classic quail cover. (Bags will not be limited.) Back at the lodge guests will be lavished with world-class service and amenities. Rio Piedra has been a favorite among Shooting Sportsman readers for decades and we are thrilled to be going back.

Location: Kamiah, Idaho

Description: Our prior hunt at this lodge ranks as one of the all-time best in Reader & Writer history. Big bags of pheasants, quail, chukar and partridge are the daily norm at Flying B. The wide array of habitat can accommodate practically any physical ability. The meals and lodging rate among the finest in the country. Few lodges have received greater acclaim over the past several decades, and it’s easy to see why.

Location: Donalsonville, Georgia

Description: A regal hunt for a regal gamebird.  Authentic South Georgia bobwhite quail hunting from mule-drawn wagons. Pine Hill’s reputation for producing explosive covey rises on its 6,000 acre spread has become widespread for a reason. If you bring a .410 here, you better be good. The luxury lodging and world class cuisine round out an offering that earned the 2013 Orvis Lodge of the Year award.
