Apply Now for Utah Grouse and Crane Permits
If you want to hunt sandhill cranes, sage grouse or sharp-tailed grouse in Utah this fall, you need to get your permit application in soon. To be included in the draw for permits, your application must be received through www.wildlife.utah.gov no later than 11 p.m. on July 3.

Senate Passes Farm Bill
The U.S. Senate today voted to approve the Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2012, a bipartisan Farm Bill authored by Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, and Ranking Member Senator Pat Roberts. The bill was approved with broad bipartisan support, on a vote of 64-35.
First Range-Wide Lesser Prairie Chicken Surveys Completed
Surveys have now been concluded for the first range-wide assessment of lesser prairie chicken populations using common methods across portions of five states. The Lesser Prairie Chicken Interstate Working Group is composed of biologists from the state fish and wildlife agencies of Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Nebraska Retains 104,000 Acres of CRP
Outdoorsmen and women rely heavily on Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) lands to provide habitat for game species, as well as places to hunt. A better than expected general CRP sign-up will help keep most of those places intact. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will accept 104,298 acres in Nebraska offered under the 43rd CRP general sign-up.
Nevada Sage Grouse Habitat Protected
Nearly 6,300 acres of some of the best sage-grouse habitat in Nevada are being protected and restored through the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP). The land provides wet meadow habitat that is critical to the birds for brood-rearing and is located in the area surrounding Duck Lake, a terminal lake basin in northern Washoe County.
