Shooting in Shelikof

 Clear

Port Lions, Kodiak Island. The fringe of the last frontier. In January the daylight hours are few but the ducks are many—wintering flocks of divers and sea ducks holed up in Shelikof Strait.

But it’s more than just the hunting; it’s the adventure. Motoring out through Whale Pass, scattering old-squaw as you go; watching orcas
and otters and opportunistic eagles. Experiences beyond the shooting.

There’s plenty of shooting, besides. In sheltered coves and bays—from points and rocks and islands.

Buffleheads, old-squaw, scaup and mergansers. Golden-eyes and harlequins decoying well. Beautiful ducks in spectacular surroundings—almost overwhelming in their magnitude.

Burning daylight and memories in equal measure.
