Mike Orlen, Shotgun-Bore Mechanic
By Steven Dodd Hughes
I'm sure that long-time readers of this column have noticed that I enjoy writing about small-shop gunsmiths and gunmakers. There are many reasons for this, including the opportunity to introduce specialty craftsmen to potential clients who might not otherwise be aware of their services. Relating "how it was done" to those who have an interest in the processes of gunmaking and documenting this era's craftsmen for future researchers are also important to me. I enjoy the small-shop benefit of talking with the person who is going to do the work, and I'm continually amazed at how much I learn while conducting these interviews.
