Brown Barrels, Greener Guns

I have encountered many surprises in visits to gunmaking workshops across Britain and Europe, but never so many as during my first visit to that of David J. Dryhurst. Arranging that visit had not been easy. I had known vaguely of Dryhurst's reputation as one of the best independent actioners to the British trade-a punctilious perfectionist by all accounts-but also one who theretofore had refused to talk to sporting writers, British or American. After receiving several letters of introduction from my friends in the trade and repeated inquiries, Dryhurst finally relented and allowed me into his small-but-tidy workshop in the quiet village of Barnt Green, on the southern outskirts of Birmingham.
