Here Be Dragons
By Douglas Tate
Decorative hunting weapons have been with us since dragons walked the earth. There can be little doubt that the lance with which Saint George slew the dragon was embellished with a choice pattern of tight, probably English, scroll surrounding a vignette of a leather-winged, fire-breathing creature with a penchant for the flesh of virgin princesses.
Most animals applied to guns are the quarry for which the gun is intended-dangerous game on a double rifle, grouse on a shotgun, stags on a stalking rifle.
