Steel Shot for Clays

Shooting Sportsman readers have asked many questions about practicing on clay targets with steel shot to develop greater proficiency. That is especially valuable preparation for hunting pheasants and other upland birds on federal and some state public lands where nontoxic shot is required. I recently received a set of questions on the same topic posed by the Scottish Clay Target Association (SCTA), and my answers may be helpful to curious readers. Is steel shot the only alternative to lead? From a theoretical standpoint, steel shot is not the only alternative to lead.
