Evolution of the Sidelock, Part IV

In previous issues I've looked at examples of sidelocks from the mid-19th century to a current Spanish version. This time I'll examine a couple of modern Italian locks that display their own characters. Recently, I've had the opportunity to inspect quite a number of different Italian sidelocks-many being examples of innovation and evolution. It seems the Italians have taken up the developmental continuum of the sidelock where it stopped in England around 1900. It is obvious that neither ease of manufacture, lowering costs nor quantity of production inspired the changes we see.
