Being Fair
Correcting a dog when it doesn't understand why it is being corrected simply isn't good dog training. Besides being downright unfair, ill-timed punishment helps create an unwilling student or no student at all. Just as the timeworn adage goes, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink," so it is with dog training. You can lead a dog to school, but you can't make it learn. Correcting a young dog when it doesn't have a clue why the hammer is falling will ensure that the dog does not come close to being all it could be, as the desire to learn will be taken right out of it.
