Fine Gunmaking
Signed in Gold
At some time or another all crafts- men have to come to terms with how to identify their work. Singular creations deserve to be signed for current and future identity and as simple symbols of pride to anyone who might see them. This speaks to both the craftsman's pride in the end result and the owner's pride in the acquisition. The challenge is to be subtle yet definitive. When I started making custom guns, I used a small die with my initials that simply was struck into steel. While researching flintlock guns, I discovered many pieces from as early as the 17th Century that were hallmarked with insets of precious metal struck with the makers' personal stamps.
