The Purdey Awards USA

I have a simple request. Visualize, for a moment, gunmaker James Purdey & Sons and wild bobwhite quail. What associated images first come to mind? The gun buff sees perhaps a beautifully engraved Purdey sidelock, lockplates adorned with a brace of quail, the birds' elegance captured in steel by the talented hands of a bulino master. The dogman may imagine trusty Rufus and Scout standing still as statues, tails and heads held high, hamstrings quivering as hunters stride past and a covey flushes. The shooter no doubt pictures himself effortlessly plucking a double from a bevy of whirring birds with, say, a lithe new Purdey 28-bore.
