West of Waycross, they call Route 84 the Wiregrass Parkway. Waycross is indeed way 'cross-50 miles from just about anywhere. Sandy red hills where the Great Blue Ridge finally ran out of rock, the blackwater Satilla, the blacker Little Satilla, countless creeks, unnumbered seeps and runs swollen now from the first spring rain. Pecan trees, magnolia, tulip and tupelo, and the vast tracts of longleaf pines stretching off to Alabama, Mississippi and beyond.
