Fine Gunmaking
Evolution of the Sidelock, Part V
By Steven Dodd Hughes
This series of articles about sidelocks has been an enjoyable venture for me. I feel singularly blessed to have had the opportunity to examine, inspect and report my impressions and understanding of this variety of jewel-like mechanisms. I have studied lock geometry for three decades, and I have long been a fan of exquisite gun mechanisms, including the work of legendary lockmakers John Stanton and Joseph Brazier of Wolverhampton, England. It has been a pleasure to pull much of my studies together in print and photos.
