Calculating Actual Recoil

As readers of this column know, I have never had anything good to say about recoil. For more than 25 years I’ve kept care-ful records of the shooting scores of the 18,000-plus participants in the shooting work-shops I’ve run for the Cooperative North American Shotgunning Education Program (CONSEP), and recoil has proved to be the most erosive force in individual shooting performances. The data clearly show that scores for most of the shooters have degenerated as recoil forces or the number of rounds fired have increased.
