Dave Alvarez is my friend because we both like gundogs. Actually, we're kinda weird about all dogs, but mostly dogs that hunt, from beagles and Jack Russell terriers to standard poodles, vizslas, German shorthairs, Drahthaars, golden retrievers, spaniels and English pointers. But most of all, we like Labs. Though Dave is a hell of a golf pro who gives lessons to folks like Clint Eastwood and Sylvester Stallone, he also brokers gundogs and guides bird hunts. Wealthy guys who have everything but a good hunting dog call Dave, who works his network of dog trainers to locate the kind of dog that can point a covey of partridge at 80 yards or take hand signals to a crippled duck 400 yards away.
