Jacks of All Trades
An all-around look at versatile breeds
By Chad Mason
Back in my college days, I played a little baseball. The coach moved me around a lot, from second base to shortstop, often to right field. I even played third base for a while, and I'm proud to say that I filled all these positions with an equivalent level of passable mediocrity. Fortunately, baseball is a spring sport that allowed me to pursue a "parallel career track"-in hunting. With a batting average that hovered around .200, I knew I was going to need something to fall back on.
It would be several more years, though, before I would discover dogs that also could play the whole field.
