Honkers, Huns, & More
Mixed-bag hunting in Southern Saskatchewan
By Gary Kramer
At first they were mere blemishes in the dawn sky, but as they winged closer, we could see ragged lines and V formations. Hunkering down in the pits, we pulled camouflage covers over ourselves and started calling. The first flock passed well out of range, paying no attention to our calls or decoys. Several minutes later our guide, Ron Thistle-thwaite, spotted three birds shedding altitude and heading our way. The geese began answering our calls, and as their chatter filled the air, I lifted the cover slightly and peeked out.
