Another Way to Look At It
Some amateur dog-training advice
By Tred Slough
A friend of mine who is a pretty good dogman recently began training dogs professionally. Business is good, and we've had a few discussions about me going to work for him as an assistant trainer.
I'm tempted, and Lord knows I don't turn down temptation often; but I've studied the situation, and I'm afraid that despite my longstanding interest in bird dogs and retrievers-and a fair bit of experience training on my own-I may not have what it takes to train dogs professionally.
Language could be a problem.
