Chapuis Armes
A French maker embracing the American market
By Clair Kofoed
It's highly unlikely that a gun buyer would ignore the country, state and especially city of manufacture of his purchase. After all, guns, like people, are often judged fairly or unfairly by their origins. Never mind that the French invented the breechloader and have a long tradition of wingshooting; in the US their shotguns are widely misunderstood. Perhaps it's just that some of their guns, like the Darne, have unconventional mechanics. French guns often have distinctive Gallic features in opposition, it seems, to most nations that have copied proven English forms.
