Shooting
Fairy Tales
By Michael McIntosh
While researching the piece I wrote for January/February, about the great American exhibition shooters, I came across a little item that has me grinning yet. It's an undated report from a small Arizona newspaper, circa 1920s or '30s, I'm guessing. Ed McGivern was on the bill at a local rodeo performing his handgunning wizardry. At one point in the act he was shooting a Colt .45 Auto rapid-fire at hand-thrown targets, naturally hitting everything that flew. But then his pistol jammed-probably the smokestack jam you can expect if you fire a Model 1911 fast enough and long enough.
