Brits, Birds & the British Countryside

Following are reports on a couple of books on Brittanys, a how-to guide to hunting chukar and a sobering story of the English countryside. Good reads all. Winston: The Life of a Gun Dog By Ben O. Williams (Willow Creek Press, 800-243-0495, www.willowcreek press.com; 2003) 175 pp. $19.50. Ben Williams has trained and hunted over many fine Brittanys during the past 50 years. The best of that bunch, he believes, was a big orange-and-white male named Winston. According to Williams, Winston was the kind of dog who "makes direct eye contact with me more often than any dog I've ever owned.
