'Member - Joe Knapp Club'
Researching the provenance of a unique Super-Fox
By J.E. Fender & David Trevallion
You may never have heard of Joseph Palmer Knapp, but if you've ever hunted North American waterfowl or observed with awe the annual migrations of ducks and geese, you can thank Joe Knapp for having played a vitally important role in preserving and enhancing our waterfowl hunting heritage.
Neither David nor I knew anything about Knapp until a remarkable A.H. Fox HE-grade 12-bore came into David's shop for stock repairs and metal refinishing. HE-grade Fox guns-often known as Super-Foxes-are uncommon, but more than by the grade, David was intrigued by a small gold oval set in the belly of the buttstock that read "Member-Joe Knapp Club" and contained a bas-relief bust of a man.
