Time Travel with Philipp Ollendorff
This past January at the Safari Club International Convention, in Reno, I heard a comment that got me thinking. I was sitting in the Shooting Sportsman booth and overheard the following snippet of conversation: "Have you noticed that the best classic British guns at the show are made by Germans?" Though I didn't entirely agree with the observation, I knew exactly what was meant. Hartmann and Weiss had donated a .410 over/under based on the Boss patent of 1909 that was expected to bring $200,000 at auction, and Philipp Ollendorff, originally from Oberammergau, Bavaria, was displaying a superb shotgun with all the bells and whistles of a late 19th Century British gun.
