Perfection by Hand
Cogswell & Harrison: handcrafting guns by slow degrees
By Douglas Tate
'Perfection is attained by slow degrees; it requires the hand of time.' -François Marie Arouet de Voltaire
In the beginning, the English created the game gun. Classic designs like the Beesley action, the Holland & Holland Royal and the Cogswell & Harrison Extra Quality Victor naturally followed.
There may be contrarians who consider the Purdey self-opener graceless, the Royal clunky or the Extra Quality Victor inelegant, but if there are, they remain silent. After a hundred years the consensus remains: The British build the best "best" guns.
