Eighty percent of dogs that are at least three years old have gum disease in one form or another. In May/June I discussed health maintenance in the older dog. Attention to oral health in younger dogs is critical to ensuring the overall performance and health of your dog. As I've said, preventive maintenance is better than surgery after the fact, and this is particularly true when it comes to a dog's mouth. The overall health of the mouth is a barometer of the dog's general health and performance.
