Nicaragua Ducks & Doves
Mixing it up in Central America
By Gary Kramer
It was dark when we arrived at the riverbank and stowed our gear in the skiff that would ferry us to the other side. A short passage and five-minute walk brought us to an airboat that was warmed up and ready to go. Earmuffs transformed the roar of the engine to a gentle drone. I took a seat and settled in for the ride. A push of the throttle put the craft on plane, skimming across the water. The driver maneuvered the speeding boat through narrow passageways carved through the cattails and raced across open expanses of water and marsh.
