Worthy Reads

In this issue I'll look at a lavish history of several closely linked English gunmaking firms, two books about pointing dogs, and an important collection of nonfiction by women writers-worthy books all. Atkin, Grant & Lang By Don Masters. (Safari Press, 800-451-4788, www.safaripress.com; 2006) 316 pp. $69.95. Don Masters joined the London gunmaking firm of E.J. Churchill in 1958, soon after the legendary Robert Churchill had died. In 1962 Masters was promoted to general manager, and when Churchill's amalgamated with Atkin, Grant & Lang, in 1969, he became production manager at both the London and Birmingham factories.
